SUMMARY

Popular among backyard bird species, nyjer is a nutritious source of energy for finches, sparrows, buntings and doves.

The preferred seed of goldfinches, siskins, and redpolls.

Dense energy that matters most in cold weather.

Guizotia abyssinica — despite the common name.

Heat-treated so it won't sprout beneath the feeder.

Requires small-port tube or mesh sock feeders.

Peak value during the coldest months.

Nyjer spoils if it gets wet — protect from weather and rotate stock.
