SUMMARY

Rye is a very popular cereal grain for cover crops or forage through late fall and early spring. When utilized as a cover crop component, rye is very aggressive to establish with good winter hardiness. Allelopathy effect from the rye can help suppress weeds. Cereal rye with its extensive fibrous root system is excellent for soil health. For forage, rye matures very quickly in the spring.
