An early maturing new generation diploid cultivar with excellent drought and cold tolerance. Sierra has a medium-wide leaf and dense crown which is excellent for grazing purposes. Sierra has strong seedling vigor and is highly palatable. Newer cold tolerant varieties such as Sierra can now be planted in colder regions of North America with confidence. It is ideal for producing high quality grass hay, lush pastures for grazing and for creating high quality alfalfa/grass hay.
TAMTBO is a forage-type annual ryegrass developed for high forage production in East Texas, the Deep South and Mid South of the USA. It can be over-seeded on warm season perennial pastures, or drilled into prepared seedbeds in the autumn.
A quick-growing, non-spreading bunch grass, annual ryegrass is a reliable, versatile performer almost anywhere.
Plainsman Tall Wheatgrass is a cool season perennial developed for hardiness under heavy grazing.
Western Wheatgrass is a cool-season, native, perennial grass that has coarse blue-green leaves and ranges in height from 1 to 2 feet.
WW-B.Dahl’ (jointly released in 1994 by Texas Tech, TAEX, and the Soil Conservation Service in 1994) the most recent release of Old World Bluestems and originated in India. It is typically more productive, has broader leaves, slightly more palatable,, and matures later than other cultivars. Cold tolerance is not as good as the other cultivars and best adapted to southern Oklahoma and Texas.
WW-Ironmaster’ (released in 1987) was specifically selected based on its performance on iron-deficient soils typical of high pH soils. It is adapted to soil pHs of 7.4 to 8.4 but is less productive than ‘WW-Spar’ and ‘Plains’.
WW-Spar’ (released in 1981) an original component of ‘Plains’. It has its origin in Pakistan and is more drought tolerant than the other lines making up ‘Plains’.
Matua Prairie brome (Bromus wildenowii Kunth) is a very widely adapted prairie bromegrass. It has a great track record as a grazing species under irrigation in the arid Southern USA. Further north it does well as a grass companion in hay fields. More recently, its role in wastewater management has been proven. Matua seed is treated to prevent headsmut and processed to ensure free flowing seed at time of planting. Certified Matua is easily recognized by its pink color.
Smooth brome, is a leafy, sod-forming, perennial, cool season grass that spreads by rhizomes. This species is both native and introduced.
A solid dual-purpose variety, Smith’s Gold features excellent yield potential with strong greenbug and Hessian fly resistance as well as protection against stripe rust earlier in the spring and after flowering in the adult-plant stages. Its parentage includes Gallagher, a popular variety also developed by OSU.
